Bylaws

Objectives

1. Enhance medical education among medical students , resident and other health care providers in Syria through practical activities in disease prevention, early diagnosis and management.

2. To enhance the quality and accessibility of health care services in Syria through education, partnership and volunteerism.

3. To build relationship with medical societies and other official and non-governmental organizations and individuals who have similar purposes of the group in the USA, Syria and other countries.

4. Participate in other SAMS Activity.

Membership

1. Membership will be open to any person willing to participate in group activity.

2. Voting Members of SAMS-NEW should be physician who are practicing or trained in US or Canada and they are also members of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS).

3. Members of the group will be in 2 categories:

  1. Voting members.
  2. Affiliate members.

- Voting members can include residents and fellows in training within USA or Canada.

- Voting members should pay dues.

- Affiliate members will include all members who do not meet requirements of voting members - not SAMS members, or not North America trained, they choose to be affiliate members only.

-Affiliate members do not pay dues.

Meetings

1. SAMS-NEW group will meet a minimum of once a year at a time and place determined by the executive council.

2. Executive council will meet or have a conference call on average once a month.

3. Other committees will meet on average biweekly.

Operating procedures

1. SAMS-NEW will work in according to SAMS mission and vision.

2. A group liaison will be responsible for sending reports at least once a year to the Syrian American Medical Society

3. SAMS-NEW will communicate its activities, concerns, and questions through The Group liaison, who will channel such communications to the appropriate SAMS entities.

4. SAMS-NEW is to be self governing. The Syrian American Medical Society cannot be held legally responsible for the actions of SAMS-NEW beyond the bylaws.

5. SAMS-NEW will conduct itself in a manner that is in keeping with the professionalism of the SAMS.

Finances and dues

1. The Group shall establish group dues.

2. Any change in the dues will be suggested by the executive council and it will be voted by the majority of the group.

3. SAMS-NEW will establish a bank account in its own name.

4. SAMS-NEW may conduct special fund raisings for charitable and medical relief activities.

Amendment

1. These bylaws may be amended by two thirds vote of the members, provided that a notice setting forth the proposed amendment or amendments an explanation thereof and known objections thereto shall have been sent to each member at least 7 days prior to the vote.

2. Amendments or revisions of these bylaws may be proposed by any member of SAMS-NEW.

3. All amendments will be reported to SAMS-NEW Liaison.

Dissolution

-The group could be dissolved by votes of two thirds of members.

-the group could be dissolved under the request of SAMS.

-if SAMs requests to dissolve the group, 50% of members will have the right to form new organization that hold the assets of SAMS-NEW otherwise the assets will return to SAMS.
