The language of the journal
the question of the language used in the Journal is still open. Please help us with your suggestions and experiences. The possiblities include:
1. have all articles written in English and translate each one of them to Arabic (by the corresponding editor or using medical students and residents from Syria). This way the journal will look semilar to the layout of the Gemran medical journal (the arabic version) which has half the page in arabic and half in english (please see the link: http://www.german-medical-journal.eu/GMJ_9/GMJ_9.html ) this solution is the most comprehensive but takes the most effort.
2. Another possibility is to have some articles in Arabic, some in English and some tranlated, depending on the comfor and experience of the writer and editor. As Dr. Alkali mentioned in the meeting, many of us are not experienced in transplating the medical language between arabic and english while some of us are certinly better than others. This solution seems more practical but less consistant with a fixed style to the journal.
3. the 3rd suggestion is to have it all in arabic or all in english. which seems the easiest solution (specially if you choose english) but would not go with the goal of promoting the medical language communication between Arabic and English speakers, which is one of the goals for our journal.
Either ways, using residents and students to translate as part of their researching experince and have their names published seems appealing.
so what do you guys think?
